Located in the eastern part of the 7th arrondissement, two blocks from the Rodin Museum and the esplanade of Les Invalides and one block from the Basilica of Ste. Clotilde and its charming park, this inviting two-bedroom apartment beckons visitors to immerse themselves in la vie parisienne. It offers, in perfect balance, the tranquility of a venerable Parisian community and proximity to the cosmopolitan bustle of the 6th. The neighborhood, just south of the Assemblé Nationale, is the seat of many important government ministries, several embassies and the stately home of the Prime Minister (the Hôtel Matignon). The apartment is two blocks from the Varenne metro stop on the eastern side of Les Invalides and an equal distance from Solférino on the Boulevard Saint-Germain. Three blocks in one direction is the lively rue du Bac, with its many cafes and intriguing shops (including Bon Marché and its amazing Grand Epicerie food hall). One block in the other direction is the chic rue
de Bourgogne, with its elegant restaurants, neighborhood bistros and cafes, in all price ranges and styles (including L’Arpège, with three Michelin stars). In a two-block stretch of Rue de Bourgogne are all the provisions for daily commerce - a bank, dry cleaner, small supermarket, two bakeries, fresh produce store and excellent butcher shop – as well as several antique shops, furniture and design stores. A 15-minute walk west takes you to rue Cler, one of the best outdoor markets in Paris, in a neighborhood that also features many highly rated bistros and restaurants. A 15-minute walk towards the Seine brings you to the Musee d’Orsay. It is very easy to see why Rue de Grenelle is such a sought-after location for exploring or residing in Paris.
The recently remodeled apartment is on the 4th floor (French) of a 19th-Century Directoire- style building with elevator. There are two desirable conveniences in the immediate environs: a Société Générale ATM machine and a post office. The entry to the building is through a large cobblestone carriageway into a simple entrance hall with a typical Parisian elevator (for two adults). The apartment comprises an entrance hall, living room with dining area, two bedrooms, kitchen, a bathroom with a spacious shower and vanity area and a separate WC with toilet and sink. With a surface area of 72 m2 (775 sq. ft) and an efficient layout, the apartment is comfortable for a group of up to four people willing to share a single bathroom and WC.
Remodeled in 2006 by A+B Kasha Designs, the apartment has new electrical and plumbing systems and double-glazed windows. It is elegantly appointed, with a crisp modern feel tempered by warm colors, rich textures and traditional touches in furniture and art. The floors of the hall, living room and bedrooms are all original point d’hongrois parquet, with a beautiful patina. The walls are newly plastered, with toile de verre textures in the bedrooms and a smooth finish elsewhere. The long French windows, all looking onto the rue de Grenelle, are decorated with gorgeous lined silk curtains. Smooth ceramic sconces give a soft, cozy light in the evenings.
The entrance hall features a charming antique stove (used now for decoration and storage only) and a built-in cabinet with a shelf for the land-line telephone (with inexpensive service back to the USA) and two pay-as-you-go local cell phones which are made available to guests. The cabinet also holds a wireless printer/copier. The dining area features a Directoire glass-fronted antique buffet in rich walnut, a matching dining room table and two Miro lithographs. The living room has a marble fireplace (decorative only) with a Directoire style mirror, a comfortable sofa under a large and colorful acrylic painting, and an oriental rug. In front of the sofa is a Chinese coffee table, and nearby a leather armchair and an antique side table customized to serve as the stand for the 32” flat screen TV, the companion DVD and CD player, the Bose sound system (with i-Pod connectivity) and the wireless DSL connection.
The smaller bedroom, in cream and gold tones, opens off the living room and contains a queen-sized bed fitted with top-quality linens and independently controlled reading lamps, a chair and a small corner table. Mirrors, small collages and water colors grace the walls. Connecting to this room is a walk-in closet with a three-drawer dresser, ample shelving and a hanging rod.
The larger bedroom, accessed from the other end of the living room, features a king-sized bed (which can be converted into two twin beds) with linens matching the rich orange-red window curtains. Two small bedside tables with lamps, a long side table (expandable to desk size), a small but comfortable chair, a full-length mirror and a built-in bookcase complete the furnishings. Wall hangings in this room include watercolors, collages and painted photographs. The room has two small closets, one with shelves and the other with a hanging rod. In addition to configuring the room as a king or twin-bedded room, guests can request it for use as a bedroom/study with the desk expanded to its full size.
The kitchen is entirely modern and equipped for serious cooking as well as simple meals. It has a new stainless steel dishwasher, a large new refrigerator with freezer, and an electric four-burner glass top stove with a conventional oven beneath. The countertop is granite. Appliances include microwave, toaster oven, Nespresso system espresso machine, food processor and blender. Gourmet cookware and cookbooks (featuring French cuisine but written in English) make this an ideal kitchen for guests who want to try their hand at French cooking. The apartment's dishware, glassware, silverware and bar equipment are simple but tasteful and plentiful.
The bathroom, off the entrance hall, has been completely remodeled, with recessed lights, a large three-part mirrored cabinet, a generous sink with a large shelf below and a generously-proportioned tiled walk-in shower. The room includes a towel warming rack, and a hair dryer is provided for guests. The toilet is in a separate room at the end of a curved hall hung with interesting photographs. Laundry facilities, a separate washer and dryer, both new, are located behind sliding doors.
The exciting combination of stylish and comfortable furnishings, extensive amenities and an excellent location make this apartment a desirable choice for travelers wanting to experience all that Paris has to offer.
