RUE DE LILLE
This stylish apartment on the little rue de Lille boasts not only a privileged location behind the Musée d'Orsay, where the Seine flows just alongside. The boulevard Saint-Germain-des-Prés is just a few blocks to the south, directly across the river, lies that extraordinary edifice called the Louvre.
It is a tastefully decorated and spacious one-bedroom rental apartment, centrally located near museums, sites of historical interest and a plethora of good restaurants. From the carefully selected décor to the superbly equipped kitchen, this apartment has obviously benefited from the owner's keen eye for detail, attention to modern comforts and superlative sense of style.
The owner has outfitted this “classical” Parisian apartment with a clean, modern design. The white tile floor and pale lavender walls, along with the high ceilings, enhance the dimensions of the space. Dark accent colors add character to the property and vibrancy to its atmosphere. The apartment is on the ground floor of a beautifully kept 19th century Haussmann-style building, making access and luggage management particularly easy.
The living room and dining room occupy one large airy room, occupying 35 square meters (375 sq. ft.) of the total 60 square meters (645 sq. ft.) of the apartment. The walls are a pale lavender so subtle that one doesn't quite notice the color until the eye is drawn upward to the contrasting cream-colored four-meter (12 ft.) ceilings. The sitting area of the living room is comprised of a black leather couch and two chairs, surrounding a low rectangular coffee table. The couch can be converted to a sofa bed for occasional overnight guests. A leggy table next to the window presents the flat screen TV that has satellite reception and doubles as the monitor for the computer available for guest use. There is also a high-speed wireless internet connection at the property for those that prefer to travel with their own machines. In the dining area there is a round table that can comfortably seat four.
The compact and well-illuminated kitchen, just off the living room, is very well-equipped and fitted with an American-sized refrigerator, four-burner electric stove and oven, dishwasher and wall-mounted microwave oven. A toaster, blender, and coffeemaker occupy one corner of the counter, leaving plenty of workspace.
The compact bedroom with queen-size bed is at the front of the apartment, where two windows - one in the living room and the other in the bedroom - look out onto rue de Lille. The owners have taken every step to assure that the bedroom is noise-free and concealed from outside view. The specially treated window glass is both unbreakable and impervious to sound. Floor-to-ceiling drapes framing the windows provide total privacy. At night steel shutters on the windows may be closed if desired. The windows can be opened to different degrees, with or without the shutters drawn, to aid in airflow. The bedroom is separated from the living room by a thick geometric-print curtain that can be drawn at night and matches the curtains for the living room window.
At the rear of the apartment are an independent WC, a dressing room and a spacious and well-lighted bathroom with two basins, a bathtub and a separate shower stall. The dressing room has two large closets for storing clothes, as well as washing machine and separate dryer. There are several closets, also available for guest use, between the bathroom and the main living area of the apartment. The bathroom and storage facilities are those of a much larger apartment and assure comfortable living for rentals of either one week or many.
All basic conveniences - pharmacy, dry cleaner, post office, a variety of food stores - lie in the immediate neighborhood of this charming apartment. And for the visitor who delights in that special Parisian pleasure of walking to a restaurant for dinner and then strolling home along the Seine, perhaps stopping for a coffee or digestif in a local café, no neighborhood offers more in the way of pleasant little bistros and Michelin-rated restaurants. For ranging further a field there is a taxi stand at Museé d'Orsay, and the Solférino Métro station is only three minutes by foot.
